Ship Collides "In our Backyard"

On the night of Jan. 26th, 2012 a 300 foot section of the US 68 bridge over Kentucky Lake was demolished.  US 68 is the main East-West Route through the "Land Between the Lakes."
Kenlake Marina, located on the western bank, just below this bridge was our home during Aug. and Sept. 2009.  We traveled across this bridge numerous times as well as making several passages up and down the lake on Play Dough while in the area.
The bridge was struck by the "Delta Mariner", a 312 foot cargo ship.  This ship routinely carries rocket sections from Huntsville, AL to the NASA facility on Florida's coast.  It appears that the collision was due to the ship passing through the bridge section immediately to the right of the taller center span.
